It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, yet it seems that the most powerful and engaging imagery can be derived from several simple words and phrases. The greatest words and images are those that create a clearer path to the mind and the heart. The greatest thoughts are those that stimulate the imagination and imagery of the mind and engage and inspire the heart. To what end? Ultimately, each in his or her own way - to great acts.

Why another compilation of quotations? Because there is simply not enough imagination and inspiration that gets through today. In this incessantly busy and crowded world of excellence and innovation there is a severe scarcity of mindful and truly inspiring material to engage individuals in the pursuit what really matters - the great deeds - the acts that create a substantive benefit to individuals and the community, that inspire ourselves and others to greatness and significance - great performance that impacts the world in a positive and lasting way and truly makes a difference.

As we accelerate into the new millennium we do so as a community with a noticeable absence of principles and of character and of truth and of purpose and of courage and of wisdom and a host of other missing values and principles to guide individuals to something more than simple survival and self interest. Accelerating mediocrity prevails as we race to be the first lemmings to the edge of the cliff. There is a harsh reality to be faced today - a malaise of self interest and mindlessness, absence of principle, and oppression of the human spirit. These stand in the way of humanness, purpose, profit, survival and prosperity. We can face this reality with compliance or cynicism, or find the courage and optimism to lead a revolution in leadership - a revolution of mindfulness, purpose and spirit to engage the hearts and minds of individuals and create the future ... one heart and mind at a time.

Our collective is biased - and clearly so - in favour of the human spirit, leadership, optimism and hope, freedom, possibility and the belief that individuals truly strive to greatness - to a greater purpose and community. In this work we seek to fill the gaps with the insights and wisdom of mindful men and women who in their words and by their deeds and efforts moved the world and course of culture and history in some significant way. And although words and thoughts are abstract and conceptual, the imagery and inspiration when reduced to reality can indeed inspire great actions.
